WordPress powers over 40% of all websites on the internet – and it’s the platform I use exclusively for building client websites. But simply having a WordPress site isn’t enough. The default out-of-the-box WordPress installation is a content management system, not a lead generation machine. Here’s what you need to add to make it work hard for your business.
1. A Conversion-Focused Page Builder
Standard WordPress themes are adequate for content, but they’re not designed with conversion in mind. A page builder like Elementor allows you to create highly structured, visually compelling pages with strategic placement of headlines, testimonials, forms, and CTAs. The design of a page directly affects how many visitors convert.
2. Fast, Reliable Hosting
Many WordPress sites are slow because they’re hosted on cheap shared servers. Page speed directly affects both user experience and Google rankings. Investing in quality hosting – and a caching plugin like WP Fastest Cache – can cut load times dramatically and improve both conversion rates and SEO performance.
3. Conversion-Optimised Forms
Your contact forms should ask for the minimum information needed and be positioned strategically throughout the page – not just at the bottom. A form in the header, mid-page, and footer typically performs significantly better than a single end-of-page form.
4. CRM Integration
Every form submission should flow automatically into a CRM and trigger an immediate response – an SMS acknowledgement, an email with relevant information, a calendar booking option. Without this integration, leads that come through outside business hours might not receive a response for hours, by which time the prospect has already contacted a competitor.
5. Analytics and Conversion Tracking
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Google Analytics and Google Search Console should be installed on every business website, and conversion goals configured so you know exactly where your leads are coming from.
